Disponible sur GaragePunk.com, la fameuse émission radio de Lux Interior des Cramps :

“The Purple Knif Show is a highly sought-after, classic Hollywood radio show from July 1984 hosted by Lux Interior of The Cramps. The Purple Knif is in reference and in tribute to Cleveland’s horror TV show host from 1963-’66 and former DJ Ernie (Ghoulardi) Anderson who used to say: “Stay Sick!,” “Cool it with the boom-booms,” and “The whole world is a purple knif” (”knif” being the word “fink” spelled backwards, of course). What works so well on this wonderful DJ mix which runs the gamut from raw ’60s punk, garage, and rockabilly, to Polynesian jungle rhythms and jazz themes is that Lux has picked some great music and DJs in an appropriate, heavily reverbed DJ’s voice. This not only enhances the whole thing perfectly, but also helps to take us back to the era of the early rock’n’roll DJ personality.”

Le plus récemment arrivé dans tout ça (Brimstone Howl, livré mardi par mon facteur) est franchement formidable dans un style garage punk furieux et impossible à dater. Produit par Dan A. des Black Keys. Il y a une chanson à télécharger sur le site de leur label (Alive)

Gomm est un groupe de Lilles, excellent, et j’ai téléchargé le morceau en question sur leur site.

Pour ceux qui sont à Bruxelles, diffusion lundi sur Campus du Radia réalisé par les Tape-beatles (lundi 16 juillet, 14h00, 107.2 FM). Le programme des Tape-beatles, copié de leur press-kit :

• We make music that can be made by anyone. We take devices made for reproduction of music; i.e., for passive listening, and deflect them to the task of actively engaging their pseudo-secret possibilities to the production of new listening experiences that may come from the news, but never sounds like it.

• The much-touted idea of “originality” is deeply suspect when, for the past fifty years the art world has been hurling insults at the public, and being very “original” in doing so. It isn’t sufficient just to be original — that’s actually quite easy — the important thing is to be honest and give something useful to society. (Of course, they probably won’t accept it.)

The Tape-beatles on Radia

Music collage from Prague-based duo produced for Radia on behalf of Resonance FM. Selection of works combine voice, loops, and layered sounds.
The Tape-beatles formed in Iowa City, USA in 1987 and have been based in Prague since 2000, when Lloyd Dunn joined John Heck there. Some works in the program were created during the production of the CD and film Good Times, but were not included. ‘Stolen Bicycle’ was created for a uncompleted compilation of works based on DJ Spooky samples. Les disques que je préfère pour le moment sont souvent ceux que certains trouveraient franchement rétrogrades, comme par exemple le Mark Sultan (sur le label In the red). Mark Sultan enregistre aussi, en solo (one man band) ou avec King Khan, sous le nom de BBQ. Parfois, il chante quelques mots en français.

Au menu ce soir : soupe de lentilles au chorizo.

L’autre jour, via une critique plutôt rigolote sur Terminal Boredom, je suis tombé sur ceci :

On n’était pas très nombreux hier soir à Recyclart pour Hank Pine and Lily Fawn et c’est bien dommage. Séance de rattrapage: on conseille le téléchargement urgent des cinq morceaux disponibles sur cette page-ci et éventuellement le voyage jusqu’à Louvain-la-Neuve le jeudi 15 décembre pour les voir à la salle Chez Zelle.
En première partie hier, Thomas Truax, accompagné de sa batteuse mécanique Sister Spinster, était lui aussi des plus convaincants (mais ne sera pas à LLN, consolez-vous en avec la chanson Escape from the orphanage.)

-Le concert des Two Gallants au Bota vous a semblé un peu court? (il faisait une première partie, malheureusement). Consolez-vous en downloadant Nothing to you (et attendons de pied ferme leur prochain album sur Saddle Creek)
-Future sortie sur Secretly Canadian, Catfish heaven: Please come back
-Amandine, groupe folko-atmosphérique suédois, vient de sortir un album sur Fat Cat. Deux morceaux sont dispos sur leur site: Blood and Marrow et surtout Halo
-Enfin, ami rocker, va donc chez Comfort Stand downloader le nouveau disque des Wades, gratuit et en creative commons.

L’obscur Beeblo, sur Omega Point Records; vous pouvez downloader son revigorant Up at six (speed dial). Plein d’autres choses sur leur site Borderline Autistic (avant Beeblo s’appelait comme ça, c’est le même groupe).
Sur Jagjaguwar, on peut déjà downloader un morceau du prochain Pink Mountaintops (Stephen Mcbean, des excellents Black Mountain).
Enfin, pour découvrir le tandem de flamands malades I Love Sarah, allez donc sur leur site, downloadez qcq l zouk, surtout essayez de les voir en concert (c’est incontournable, très rock’n’roll, et fort différent du morceau cité ci-dessus!)
